Media Training

Media Training

How many times have you seen or heard a chief executive on the television or radio speaking persuasively and with real gravitas? Their impressive mastery of the situation and the apparent ease with which they respond to questions is most likely the result of good media training — not many of us are born star media performers however: we have to learn a few tricks first!

An attack of nerves or failing to anticipate and be prepared for the not-so-obvious question often prevents individuals from making their point clearly, leaving them feeling that they have wasted a great opportunity to promote their business and their own expertise. Don’t be one of them.

You might think that Media Training is not for you, but we’ve taken so many people through our training, we know it enables them to radiate confidence and fluency when in the spotlight.

From advising on the simple dos and don'ts through to more sophisticated interview techniques on say, how to handle a major media announcement, or answering hostile questions while staying calm and focused, our training will ensure that you are ready to address the microphone or face the camera with poise and alacrity. All of which will ultimately place your company as a thought leader in your field.

Beyond formal media training, we are always available to help clients streamline their messaging and prepare their responses in advance of an interview, quite often at short notice. If you are looking for a sense check or need a sounding board before going under the studio lights, give us a call.

We can help you answer the following questions:

  •  How do I make sure I convey my message?

  • What is the journalist looking for and what are they likely to ask me?

  • What are the dos and don’ts of media interviews?

  • How do I avoid being hijacked, with words put in my mouth?

  • What sort of body language should I adopt during an interview?

  • What should I wear during a TV interview?

  • How do I respond to questions that I don’t have an answer to?

  • How do I deal with hostile questions?

  • How can I avoid answering a question during a TV or radio interview?

  • What if the TV interviewer is aggressive?

David J Kennedy - Head of Media and Communications COSLA

COSLA used Perceptive Communicators for media training for our new Presidential team and Spokespersons – and they were absolutely first class. All those who took part got something out of the day. They were superb facilitators and as someone remarked to me afterwards, they have the company name exactly right, because Perceptive Communicators is exactly what they are. A fantastic PR agency!
