BioCity Scotland in Lanarkshire is a business incubator for biotech, pharmaceutical and healthcare businesses with high-spec laboratories, office space, access to expertise and finance.
We were appointed in February 2015 with the main aim of gaining Enterprise Area status for BioCity by 2017. This would allow businesses based there to take advantage of rates relief, faster planning applications, skills support and assistance in accessing international markets.
We used our public affairs expertise to lead a cross-party campaign with elected members, bringing MSPs, MPs and Ministers to BioCity Scotland. We closely integrated the public affairs and PR activities, ensuring that each visit achieved maximum traditional and social media coverage.
Meanwhile, running in parallel, we were gaining extensive media coverage for other BioCity initiatives, which has massively raised the profile of both BioCity Scotland and its tenant companies.
• Mission accomplished! BioCity Scotland became an Enterprise Area in September 2015, two years ahead of target.
• The Scottish Government expects this to create around 180 jobs at BioCity Scotland over the next five years – fantastic news not just for BioCity Scotland, but for Lanarkshire and the Scottish life sciences sector.
• Over 100 pieces of positive coverage in national, local, business, life sciences and broadcast media, for BioCity Scotland and its tenant companies
