That was the year that was 2013: client success, growth and a royal pregnancy

The release of the Scottish Government’s Scottish Annual Business Statistics for 2013 last week has been one of the key topics of discussion here at Perceptive Communicators. The two year gap between research being undertaken to the final report being published may throw people off their impact in September, 2015, but they remain an ideal marker to gauge Scotland’s economic performance.

A year which saw Gleneagles host the G8 Summit, the NHS celebrate its sixty fifth birthday and the announcement of the Duchess of Cambridge’s pregnancy, was also an important period for the agency and our clients.

We specialise in technology, life sciences and construction, the latter two sectors offering up some interesting results.

In 2013, cash terms Gross Value Added (GVA) in the construction sector amounted to £6.2 billion. The sector comprised specialist construction trade, building construction and civil engineering projects, all three of which saw increases over the period. 2015 has echoed these findings, with activity across Scotland gathering pace.

Our focus is on achieving results that impact on a client’s bottom line, something which the whole team strongly believes in. 2013 was no different, allied in part with the strong performance of our construction sector clients.

We have all come a long way since then.

We continued to tell the great success story and build-upon solid relationships for the Athletes’ Village built by City Legacy – a consortium of Glasgow companies Mactaggart & Mickel, CCG, Cruden and WH Malcolm. The period saw ongoing stakeholder engagement, profile raising and PR activity, leading to flagship coverage across traditional media and broadcast channels. Now, in August 2015, only a handful of properties remain.

2013 illustrated the resilience and buoyancy of the sector during challenging economic times and this has led to the recent establishment of Construction Scotland Innovation Centre – set up foster innovation in the sector and support and guide the industry, with its ongoing positive impact continuing to deliver transformational change in construction. We are delighted to provide PR support to this important organisation.

In 2013 we had been providing Kier Construction with PR support, focusing on new appointments and developments. Our ongoing activity has now seen Kier emerge as a market leader, securing multiple wins on public sector frameworks and creating a strong pipeline of work. With a focus on addressing the skills gap and a number of new announcements set to follow this year, the operator has continued to go from strength to strength with Perceptive Communicators at its side.

Since 2013, we have also ramped up activity for another construction client, Cruden Homes. This has seen work on significant projects like its King’s View development in Glasgow towards the end of 2014, and we continue to work with them to raise awareness of the developments latest release of properties at the end of this month.

The construction sector has helped in no small part to build Perceptive Communicators and we have grown with it, but our expertise and client base spreads far beyond.

Our involvement with BioCity Scotland this year saw a new foray into the life sciences sector.

The report’s findings suggested GVA in the sector amounted to £1 billion. The sector remains a key driver for Scottish economic growth and with estimations suggesting it is set to double in size over the next five years, it’s one which we are proud to operate in.

This latest report has given us the opportunity to look back on client success stories and internal growth, but at Perceptive Communicators, we always look forward. We’ve come a long way since 2013 alongside our clients. It’s an exciting time for the agency and we look forward to continuing the results-driven work we undertake for all our clients, whatever the year.
