It’s been a whirlwind six years providing integrated communications and marketing support to the team who built and delivered the award winning Athletes’ Village – the City Legacy consortium.
There have been a number of fantastic events, and marketing milestones achieved along the way, but seeing the first residents of the fantastic riverside community move into their new homes last Friday, was one experience which will be hard to beat.
City Legacy’s Ed Monaghan, Calum Murray, John Gallacher and Martin Kiely joined First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, Councillor Gordon Matheson, Leader of Glasgow City Council, and the chairs of three of Glasgow’s Housing Associations (Thenue, GHA and West of Scotland Housing Association) on Friday to meet some of the first tenants. It was a great day for everyone involved in The Village, and one which left us all feeling extremely proud.
In advance of the event we worked with the City Legacy sales team to identify residents who could be interviewed by broadcast and print journalists about their new homes. We also set up multi-agency visits to the site and ensure that arrangements for the media photo call, interviews and broadcasts were in place. On the day itself, our staff attended the site of the photo call, some three hours before it was due to take place, to finalise arrangements and to facilitate a three live national TV broadcasts from the site. They also worked alongside the public relations officers from the Scottish Government, Glasgow City Council and Thenue Housing Association to manage multiple interview requests.
The extensive print and broadcast coverage evidenced the phenomenal atmosphere on the day – and the enormity of the legacy that the new, east end community is providing for Glasgow.
The coverage achieved included BBC national and regional news, BBC online, STV regional and national news, STV online, BBC Radio Scotland and Radio Five live, Herald, Daily Record, Scottish Construction Now and Urban Realm.
